There are a good many camping cots on the market and it can be a challenge to choose the right one for a good price.  There are not only different brand names but different sizes too; you can get a double camping cot ( otherwise known as bunk beds ), queen size camping cot, king size camping cot or child’s camping cot.

While a number of supermarkets such as Wal-Mart, Sears and Kmart all sell cots for camping, you can often get better deals online via online only retail sites or even a regular supermarket’s online retail site.

A double camping cot is a good option if you are camping with your family and the tent is high but not all that wide.  A double cot acts as a small ‘bunk bed’ where one child can sleep on the top and the other on bottom.  They are not very cheap; Cabela’s, for instance, sells one for $230.  They can also be used as single cots as needed, if you are camping alone.

A queen size camp cot is a good option if you are camping with your spouse or significant other.  One particularly comfortable option is the Kamp Rite Double Tent Cot selling at a number of retailers such as amazon.com.  These tents can be bought either with or without a rain fly and in actuality; they are larger than a queen size bed.  They come with a dome top to provide protection from the elements, as well as a ‘no see um’ netting.  This cot is actually like a small tent in itself – fold it up, pack it in the car and you are all set for a romantic weekend out camping with the one you love.

There are also king size camping cots on the market if you want something really big.  Amazon sells a simple one for well under $120; it has no cover but is made from heavy duty aluminum and is sure to last you for a good amount of time.  Another option is the king size Rio Adventure Camp Cot sold at a number of online retail sites for under $50.   It is a few inches shorter than the one selling on Amazon but is large enough for any big person who wants to enjoy some time camping.

Kid cots are an alternative to the above mentioned double cots.  While you will need a tent that is quite wide, depending on how many children are sleeping in it, having individual cots for your children can be an option.  There are quite a few on the market, from simple, no frills camping cots to deluxe covered camping cots for children.  These cots come in all kinds of colors and designs so it should not be hard to find something your child or children will like.

When choosing camp cots, you may also want to consider how much room you have in the car or van.  While the cots all do fold up, they will still take up room.  Check the sizes carefully and make sure you do not get something that is too large to be viable. Also consider how much room you have in your tent or pop up tent before making your purchase. Do you have a 4 man tent, 6 man tent or a large rv? These vary in size greatly and could make an impact on what you are able to buy.
